Travisty

Travisty exists both online and in print. It has some interesting political articles, a good crossword (to be expected at Cambrige), and information on what is happening around college. Seems surprisingly left wing, but there are plenty of opportunities to get involved whichever way you hang.

Famous Alumni

As one might expect, there are hundreds of famous alumni. If you want a full list click here. A few are listed below:

Francis Bacon - Lord Chancellor
Francis Willughby - Naturalist
Spencer Perceval - Prime Minister
Edward VII - King
Lord Carnarvon - Egyptologist
Stanley Baldwin - Prime Minister
Charles Rolls - As in Rolls Royce
Jawaharlal Nehru - First PM of India
Kim Philby - Double Agent, Communist

Bars

Trinity College bar is open everyday and is popular for early evening drinks and breaks from study. Very few functions are held here, as the bar tends to be used for discussing anything from who won the rugby at the weekend, to the merits of the CAP. Another function room is used about 8 times a term for what Trinity call 'Sweaties' [Ed: sounds delightful!].

Social Events

As with most Cambridge colleges, the largest social event of the year is Trinity's May Ball, which in idiosyncratic British fashion takes place in June! Trinity's May Ball (called the First and Third Trinity Boat Club May Ball) is the largest at Cambridge, and some say the best. The setting is fantastic - on the lawns leading down to the River Cam - and they spend over £100,000 on the live entertainment alone. There is usually a casino and one can always try out the 'Dentist's Chair' or the 'Bucking Bronco', to ensure that you feel physically ill.

The only draw back is the £180 for a pair of tickets, and a further £64 if you wish to dine in the Great Hall before hand. However, it is well worth the experience, and certainly a night to remember.

Dress is usually white tie, and almost every year, without fail, people end up in the River - clothed and naked. At dawn, the 2000 students and guests are piped across the lawn for the survivors photo at 6:30am.

General accommodation

The accommodation and facilities at Trinity are some of the best at Cambridge. As with most colleges rooms range from large, old rooms to newer (but smaller) well equiped rooms. The college supplies good and honest information about the rooms, so it is pointless us going into more detail.

Bed linen and duvets are supplied (though not towels and toothbrushes) and there is even a bedmaker who cleans your room! I thought university was suppose to make you independent. Telephones can be installed - but are often there as a result of the last tenant - and access to the college network can be obtained.

Sporting facilities

Trinity College students have access to all of Cambrige University's sports facilities, as well as some excellent college owned ones. These include squash and tennis courts, a hockey pitch and several rugby and football pitches. College punts can also be used.

Libraries

The College Library and the Wren Library are the two main ones. The College Library encompasses the Reading Room and Lower Library, but there are smaller collections around the college, including Law.

As with all Cambridge Libraries, there is a great selection of books and other resources.

Computing facilities

There are two computer rooms at New Court and Burrell's Field which are well stocked with fairly new PCs, and a few Macs. There are also a few computers in the libraries.

Some of the computers have writable CD drives, and the PC have all the Windows applications like Word, Excel, Access etc.

Many of the bedrooms also have internet access connected to the college network. There are some room that don't, however, so make it clear you would like a room with internet access when you apply.
