Campus publications

There are two publications, Closet Chronicles and Hall Happenings. The Chronicles is a magazine style publication with some news but mostly student related stories and articles. Hall happenings is a weekly newsheet covering ents, events and gossip.

Famous Alumni

Terry Jones - Monty Python
Sir Robin Day - Broadcaster

Bars

There is a small bar on site but what it lacks in size it makes up for in liveliness. In addition to this there are also two rooms available for events so the bar can spill out a bit.

Major Functions

Plenty of 'bops' in the bar and events rooms that are good enough to attract students from outside the college. There are also regular theatre trips.

Social Events

Two black tie functions are put on every term for the benefit of the partying masses. These usually include a sit down dinner, drinking and the associated debauchery.

Societies

The college has a good many rugger buggers and, unsurprisingly, does well. Fencing has also been strong.

General accommodation

A majority of the rooms on site are modern but all are comfortable. There are rooms in halls off site and some students will invariable end up there but it's really not a hardship as the walk to college is short and the atmosphere is convivial. Being one of the oldest colleges means there's a good deal of reverence to be had from staying at St Edmund Hall, plenty of stunning architecture and the like. There's also a butler who serves tea in the JCR on weekdays. On the downside the food in general is expensive.

Local area

The city of Oxford is beautiful, its as simple as that. Even the addition of a few 60's monstrosities can't dampen the image that you are in a special place. Aside from the architecture there are some great places to shop and the combined student population is pretty high so there are plenty of student friendly places. There are pubs galore but hunt out the gems from the touristy crap. Start with The Purple Turtle For night spots, try the traditional student haunts of Parkend, Fifth Avenue. Hardened clubbers will have to make the hour's train ride to London. 60 000 students has given all of Oxford's club DJ's the idea that nothing but cheese will do, which, to be fair, is true. Po Na Na is a favourite and does manage to raise itself occasionally. As a general rule drunkeness is the best way to appreciate the clubs in Oxford. For food you really should try the Mongolian Wok if you want to go out for a meal that just has that edge - everyone knows the Wok.

Given that most of the colleges have fairly limited social facilities for late nights, the local area is all there is for real night owls. You might well get bored quite quickly. If so then don't despair as London is not far and very accesible by both train and an excellent coach service called the Oxford Tube. It's inexpensive and convenient.

Sporting facilities

There are sports facilities around 5 minutes from the college.

Computing facilities

24hr computer access but there aren't that many machines. This doesn't generally matter as many students bring their own equipment anyway.

Student Welfare

There is just one room equipped for a wheelchair user and the college does throw up a few access problems. A doctor and a nurse are present on site.
