Waffle

A fortnightly newssheet distributed in the loos. It has various student ramblings and is occasionally funny. The best bit about it is the drawings and sketches. Quite a bit of the material is unsuitable and can't be published. This is then placed on the JCR website. Hooray for the Internet!

Future Plans

None that we know of.

Famous Alumni

Tony Benn - Labour MP
Angus Deayton - TV Presenter
Hugh Grant - Foppish actor

Bars

The bar in college is excellent. It's called The Beer Cellar and is a dark and foreboding cave when empty. When full it is noisy, fun and the scene of plenty of debauchery. It's very popular with students from other colleges as well.

Major Functions

There are late night functions about once a fortnight which are definitely worth attending. As with many colleges live music is popular and there are performances ranging from choral and classic to jazz and student indie.

Social Events

The ball at New College is superb and tickets sell out very quickly. Its a debauched affair and there's plenty to keep you occupied as you speed the on set of cirrhosis of the liver. All in all this is one of the strongest colleges socially through its facilities and active nature. Good work.

Societies

The boat club is strong and a good one to get involved with if you like a busy social life and lots of exercise. Other than that both the college and the university as a whole have various clubs and societies to keep you stimulated and amused.

General accommodation

Accommodation is provided in college and on a newly developed halls site. There's plenty of history and you are very close to everything you'll ever need. Most of the rooms have shared kitchen facilities and some are en-suite. The college is refurbishing many of them so facilties can only improve. Not quite all the rooms are networked but this is also being improved.

University shops

The JCR has a very small shop selling just a few useful bits and pieces. It's not exactly Wal-Mart but it can save you a trip into town. For more information on other shops see main university guide

Sporting facilities

College sports facilities are good and there are playing fields on site. Traditional sports do quite well and you don't have to walk far.

Transport policy

None

Green Spaces

There are acres of playing fields on site and there is sunbathing space in the college grounds. See main university guide

Libraries

There is a beautiful library that can be a little overaweing to study in. It has an extensive antiquarian collection as well as enough texts for most of your work.

Computing facilities

The computers are all available 24hrs and have a decent range of software. There are printers and a scanner as well. The provision is better than some but having most rooms networked means that many students bring their own equipment so the college doesn't have any great pressure to increase numbers and is unlikely to do so.

Student Welfare

Aside from a range of counsellors and a good representation framework there is a doctor and nurse on site.
