Christ's Pieces
Christ's Pieces is the college gossip column and JCR newsletter. Tells you what's going on and where, but very little else.
Charles Darwin - Evolutionist
John Milton - Poet
Lord Mountbatten
CP Snow - Writer
Richard Whiteley - Countdown host
There are two bars. The Buttery Bar, which closes early and is mainly a coffee bar during the day, and the new Late Bar (also known as the L.N.B), which is open until 11pm. Good for a quiet drink, but go elsewhere for excitement.
There are two balls a year, the largest of which is the May Ball. This usually takes the form of a themed evening. In 2000, it was a classical cosmopolitan night of luxury, and among the excellent array of food was swordfish and Beef Wellington.
There are also regular music recitals and dramatic productions throughout the year. Debating is also a favorite pastime.
All students live in College or in the Jesus Lane hostels, and meals are provided. Most of the college rooms are older sytle rooms, some facing the four courtyards. However, some students are housed in the 'typewriter', a very ugly 1970s accommodation block.
There is a late night taxi service, women's escort service [Ed: not that type of escort service!], a college sick bay with nurse and CCTV.
There are squash courts on site, but the rest of the sports facilities, like gyms, tennis courts, and so on are over a mile away. Its difficult walking back to college when tired!
There are three libraries with over 120,000 books, which is a huge amount for the number of students.
There is 24hr access to the College's 75 computers, each with free internet and e-mail access.
