- Libraries:
- There are well-stocked libraries on each campus, with books, journals, CD’s, DVD’s, videos, slides and a lap dancing bar with luscious ladies and hunky Chippendales. I lied about the last bit.
- Computing:
- Around 1500 PCs and Macs. 24-hour access to the newly refurbished IT Suites and the internet. There is also internet access in all the rooms in halls. No messing about then.
- Sports:
- A sports centre with a well-equipped fitness suite, huge sports hall (often used for social events), tennis courts and fitness classes.
- Future Plans:
- Plans for a new Newport city-campus are being discussed.
- Disabled Students:
- Disabled facilities are good at Newport, power assisted doors and lowered desks enable easy access and a recent refurbishment of the library means that students with mobility problems can access greater areas.
- Student Welfare:
- A Medical Centre, two trained counsellors and an SU Education Welfare Officer ensure advice and support from professionals and students .
- Parking:
- There are four large car parks located throughout campus and generally enough spaces, although not at the halls specifically.
- University Shops:
- There is a Students’ Union shop on each of the two campuses, both sell what you would expect, food, tobacco, confectionary, drinks, phonecards and newspapers. They work on a non-profit making policy so prices are kept low.
- University Bookshops:
- Nothing on campus but bookshops in town. Worth checking that they will be able to provide for specific academic texts requirements.
- Banking:
- There is a link cash point (which charges) on Caerleon campus and cash back available in the campus shops.
- Transport Policy:
- A free bus runs frequently between the campuses and Newport train station.
- Green Areas:
- The campus and local village are both green and spacious as is much of the surrounding Welsh countryside.
