Accommodation Details:
There are three types of accommodation provided. Single rooms in college, accommodation in The Dale Building and college owned houses. Socially the best bet for first years is to live in college, after this you may well want to move out into the city to avoid the claustrophobic atmosphere.
Sports:
Facilities are shared with Merton college and are not bad.
Bars:
The Black Bottle bar is quiet during the week but really kicks off at weekends and is the scene of much drinking and debauchery. The college has a high foreign student poulation and this has a strong influence on the social scene, worth bearing in mind when you apply.
Functions:
Late night functions two or three times a term and a good live music scene. Also plenty of cocktail parties and jazz evenings. Ra ra rating 9/10 then.
Major Social Events:
Various black tie functions crop up from time to time but the number of students means that big events are limited.
Campus Publications:
A weekly newssheet available in lavatories. Light on Nobel prize winning literature but heavy on who snogged whom. Like Brasenose, Mansfield has a strong tradition in providing journalists for university publications.
