  Leeds Metropolitan University
Bars:
UNIVERSITY

There are three large university bars. The Krikstall Brewery has a capacity of over 1000 people and is situated on two floors. This tends to be where people come for pre-dinks before going to the Union club venue The Met.

Beckett Sports Bar is the smallest bar with a capacity of just over 400, but it the place where people like to come for apres-match/race drinks.

The largest venue is The Met, previously called the City Bar, which has a capacity of 1,400 and is open until the early hours three nights a week. Over the years it has gathered a repuation for attracting some of the best Indie bands in the country. The Met was also voted 'Best Student Live Entertainment Venue of the year 1999' by Live Magazine. Some of the bands to perform here are Faithless, Kula Shaker, Jungles Brothers and Courtney Pine, as well as a host of local talent.

All in all, a good union which is used regularly.

FOOD

The main refectory called The Depot is good value, but the quality and taste of food varies from bland to very bland. It's healthy, though. The SU coffee bar serves snack and junk food throughout the day. There is another Depot at Beckett Park.

LOCAL BARS & CURRENT PROMOS

There are many local bars to choose from - we have mentioned a few in the Local Area section under the Accommodation tab). However, Walkabout and the Bourbon Bar remain popular.

Walkabout are still promoting their two for one offer on selected bottles such as Reef and San Miguel throughout the week (SUN-THURS) as does the Bourbon Bar just down from the Walkabout, except they include shots on their list of drinks particularly whiskey.

The Warehouse at the other end of town has an interesting night on a Thursday called Tequila - no prizes for guessing what's on offer there!

Functions:
The union has numerous celebrated nights through the week, including the big Indie night, formerly OTT, but now called Blast, and the dance night called Polybop. The other late night function tends to change week on week. There are a range of new functions on the way so watch this space for more details or check out Leeds Met's website.

In Leeds itself, the new club Creation has two student nights each week on Monday and Wednesday each with their own offers, for example, £1.20 for a shot of vodka and a few selected cheap bottles. It's also worth noting that it's free to get in before ten, but the price rises slowly over the next couple of hours, as does the queue. Creation seems also to have taken the popularity out of Brannigan's on Monday nights. (Our thanks to Dan for info)

Major Social Events:
There are usually big events around Freshers' Week, Chistmas and before everyone leaves for the summer. Sports clubs and other societies tend to arrange Christmas Dinners and other similar events each year.
Clubs & Societies:
There are over 50 sports clubs and student societies operated and funded by the Students Union. They provide the perfect opportunity for students to make new friends, experience new activities, travel throughout the UK...and sometimes the world, all at minimal cost.
