  Lampeter (University of Wales)
Percentage of First Year Students in Halls:
100 %
Accommodation Details:
Accommodation is a mixed bag of fully catered halls, self- catered-flats and self catered blocks. There is a pay-as- you-eat system in some halls. The newer accommodation is quite pretty but there is plenty of 60's style stuff that makes you wonder why. If you like your housing old and charming then go for Burgess Hall and the St David's Building. They are quite typical of the local style but bear in mind the disadvantages of older buildings.
The local area is pleasant and friendly. You should have little difficulty finding a place to live after the first year. Most houses will be close to campus. The union is quite helpful with this anyway though.
Accommodation Prices:
University Owned
Catered: £67 pw. 30 weeks.
Self-catered: £39 - £46 pw. 35 weeks.

Private
Average rent: £38 per week.

Local Area:
Lampeter is set in the beautiful Teifi Valley. The scenery is absolutely stunning and this is what attracts many students. If you're in to countryside and outdoor pursuits then this is the place for you. The town itself is pretty and has a few small shops. There has been an educational establishment in Lampeter for ages so the locals have accepted students as part of the community, unlike some other Welsh Universities.
In terms of things to do it is very much limited to pubs, of which there are quite a few and most are very nice. The Ivy Bush and The Cwmanne Tavern are the top picks, the latter having some great live music. Avoid the dodgy converted cowshed just past the rugby field The Quarry. It can get a bit like a cross between American Werewolf in London Twin Peaks. Welsh is quite well spoken locally and learning a couple of simple phrases would be a good way to get settle in.
The nearest big towns are Carmarthen and Aberystwth. Cardiff is a £10 coach ride away. A car is a useful and will really increase your range. This can be really important as Lampeter can get a bit claustrophobic at times.
After a heavy night on the lash the students' grease of choice comes from the Cafe on Town (used to be the Newbridge).
